When is a necklace holder not a necklace holder? When it’s a beautiful wall shelf and hooks!

Often times we get caught up in thinking there’s only one way — of thing — that works. That’s the case with jewelry organizer. If you thinking store-bought is the only way to get organized then I have news… er, a tip for you. It’s time to great creative!

necklace holderSo there I was, wondering what to do about a new necklace holder. My dresser was already loaded with stuff, including a large jewelry box. And wall space is just limited (too many windows). But I needed something for a bunch of new necklaces I bought. What’s a girl to do? I looked around and just didn’t find what I wanted… even though I wasn’t too sure what I wanted. I knew I wanted to be able to see what I had at a glance.

It was while I was brushing my teeth that I hit about a solution (weird timing, I know). There was my necklace holder The shelf with hooks already hanging over my toilet. A couple of hand towels that I never use were hanging were hanging from the hooks with a couple more folded up and sitting on the top shelf. All-in-all, a total waste of good space.

The point of the story is I found the perfect jewelry storage solution. But it would have been a good solution even if I hadn’t already owned the wall shelf. Jewelry storage solutions can come from the most ordinary of objects and turn out to be the most extraordinary organizers. Although this shelf with hooks works great, there other other things that could work as well. Just hooks, decorative or plain. Or how about a towel rack with S-hooks to hold your jewelry. I’ve seen people create necklace holders from a empty picture frame and hooks (a knockoff from the Pottery Barn I’m told) to draping long necklaces over a dresser mirror. There are a whole lot of other ideas that work for jewelry storage. You just have to open yourself up to the possibilities.

Here are a couple of everyday items that could make terrific necklace holders or jewelry organizers:

Wall Shelf as Necklace HolderHere’s a white version of a wall shelf with hooks. It’s a favorite over a Kmart and for good reason. In addition to three hooks to hang your favorite necklaces, there’s an extra wide shelf for smaller jewelry or trinket boxes. I love the X-frame detailing on the edges and on the top shelf. It will fit in with all types of decor, too, from cottage to traditional.

Product Description:

3 hanging hooks for towels or clothes

Utensil Rack as Necklace Holder

If you’re looking for an idea with a more modern twist, how about a utensil rack as a necklace holder? The rack fits close to the wall so it doesn’t take up much space and it’s very sleek and modern looking. You just hang your necklaces from the hooks and when you need more space, just add more hooks. Talk about flexibility!

Product Description:

Quick, easy installation; Attach in Drywall – no joists required

8 Pot Hooks

Strong Steel construction

Silver/gray powder coat finish

Toilet Paper Holder as Necklace Holder

I know, you see a toilet paper holder, but me… yeah, I see a necklace holder. Actually I see a whole row of these holding various colors and sizes of necklaces. And all very accessible so you don’t have to hunt through a pile of dangled necklaces. And look how easy you could slide your necklaces on and off this holder. It has a simple, but elegant design and is finished in satin nickle. There’s also a matching hook, so you could create a whole wall of jewelry storage. Just think of the possibilities.

I hope these ideas inspired you to think outside the jewelry box when it comes to necklace holders.

Till next time…
